Who we are

“Ámala” in Spanish means “love her.” That carries significance for us when we think about why we decided to create Ámala Coffee.

Ámala Coffee was created by cousins born and raised in the Bay Area. Our family immigrated from Guatemala, and as we were growing up, we started to ask more questions about where our moms grew up. We found out that they spent their childhood on our grandfather’s coffee farm in Guatemala. And while that farm is no longer in our family, we learned that one of our cousins did have a coffee farm. We visited and knew this was something we wanted to do. Our intention with creating Ámala Coffee has been and continues to be to connect with our roots and share the coffee we love with others.

The different varieties of coffee are grown at more than 1,700 meters above sea level at our cousin’s farm Rincón de los Planes in the town of Mataquescuintla in Guatemala. The coffee is then roasted in Saratoga by Kenz Coffee Roasters.

We hope you love the unique coffee Guatemala has to offer just as much as we do.
